An older newborn can still get their newborn pictures!!! This sweet little boy had a hard first couple months of his life. His grandmother had just taken custody. She reached out to me hoping she could get newborn pictures done even though he was already 2 months old. She had seen someone’s newborn session that I had recently completed and really loved my work.
I have to admit, I was a little nervous about this one. The older babies get, the less they like to sleep and the more easily they wake. Poses and the overall workflow goes so much faster when baby is sleeping really good. I knew it was going to be a harder session for this older newborn.
But that really wasn’t what I was so nervous about. I was nervous because this baby had a broken arm. Never had I photographed a baby with a broken arm. Fortunately, that broken arm was nearly healed as I learned when they arrived at the studio.
Hunter, this sweet boy, came to the studio awake. I gently wrapped him and started the session with some table poses. He did amazing. Although he wasn’t completely asleep for them, I still got some great detail shots and, of course, pictures of him awake so we could see those beautiful eyes as well. But finally fell asleep.
We moved on to prop shots. We did a set up with Hunter’s name next to him, a flokati/rug picture(as seen above), and the a creative bowl shot and then a military shot as well. Hunter slept nearly the entire time he was wrapped. His sweet grandmother kept calling me the “baby whisperer”. 🥰

I am married to the love of my life who has recently retired from the Army. We are back “home” after being away for 21 years. We have 3 young boys and 1 daughter who is pursuing her college career. As a photographer, I specialize in the newborns and maternity portraits. I just love the amazing process of pregnancy and then having that sweet, new bundle of joy to love. Capturing all that is so important and I feel so blessed to be a part of this special time in my client’s lives.
